This sword is a beautiful late Kamakura katana with a stunning shape and sori. Having had many discussions about the nakago and whether it is suriage or not, I will leave it up to the individual. The sword does not seem to have been shortened, and the nakago has the typical Nio ubu shape. The Nio school is a school that was founded in the Yamato tradition in Suo province. This Nio katana has a very nice notare hamon with some more gunome-esque activity, originally described by the seller as a mt. Fuji within the hamon (which is not the case but does look similar). With stunning hataraki and nie activity, the jigane also extends within the hamon, reminiscent of some of Norishige's work. Please take your time to appreciate some of the jigane activity shown in the images. The shape of the sword is powerful; it is very long, and has a very kamakura-like sugata, with a ko-kissaki. The sword has a homare-kizu which only adds to the beauty of this sword. I have loved this sword for quite some time now, and feel like it is time for it to find a new home, after having appreciated it for quite some time. The sword comes in a shirasaya which is beautifully patinated dark wood. There are a few kitae-ware in the shinogi-ji as can be seen on the images and the boshi a little thin but there, the sword comes in a slightly older polish, with a small imperfections like scratches. Please judge the images to get a good idea of the condition. It is a proud old sword looking for a new home.

(Disclaimer: The overview image has its background removed, which can create some slight artefacting around the cutting edge.
